Noelle vs. Nia

Hey ya'll. Don't want to post too much, just a few questions for this next section to spark a conversation;
1.) What do you think happened to Noelle? On page 365; "People wanted to use you?" "Someone did. Someone who shouldn't." "I'm sorry." ... It confused me...also with the cutting...Just fill me in on what you think of Noelle!
2.) Does anyone else really hate Nia right now? She storms in, "heart broken" because of Aaron and her breaking up, and then basically puts herself on top of him. Later on she says, "This was totally on my checklist. Me and Aaron never did anything like this" and "You won't be seeing me again" (351-353). She's so rude to Craig, and I really hope he never goes back to her.
Definitely team Noelle here :)

  1. 1) I think that Noelle was sexually abused, or something of the sort because of the way she says she was 'used' by 'someone who shouldn't.' Maybe Noelle was abused by someone she did not want to tell on and get them in trouble, so she kept it a secret and as a result of keeping that bottled up she began cutting. Just a thought!

  2. Oh that's very true...It wasn't straight forward and then went to talking about her cutting her face. So i was curious!

  3. 2) I definitely agree with you on this one, Leah: Team Noelle all the way! Nia's phone call with Craig reveals her snotty attitude and how she shouldn't be considered Craig's true friend. For instance she says, “I don’t want you to freak out over me. I think you just need some time to decompress a little bit, and not think about me, and think about someone else. Because, like, I know we might be good for each other, but I'm with someone else" (193). Craig is completely taken off guard by this comment. He replies that he wasn't freaking out about Nia, but rather he was simply calling her before to talk to someone who he thought would understand. (This was the phone call he made before he attempted to commit suicide.) Craig had bigger things to worry about because he was having a personal crisis. Once Craig told her that was his reason, she eventually showed sympathy and regret for over-reacting. All in all, I still think Noelle is a way better love interest for Craig because she would never bash on Craig like Nia did; it would be simply out of character.

  4. I agree with Maura, i think Noelle was sexually abused, saying she was used, and "someone did". Also, I never liked Nia since the beginning! Whenever Craig trys to talk to her she ends up getting pissed. She's said she has some problems of her own, but the girl needs to chill out. Im definitely team Noelle. Craig is looking for someone he can relate to with his problems, and he enjoys Noelles humble relativity, other than Nia's negative comments.

  5. Oh! And another thing, when Noelle says "Someone did. Someone who shouldn't", that someone could be a parent or close relative? By saying someone who should not, everyone knows a parent or relative should NOT have sexual 'encounters' with a relative or their own child.

  6. I agree with both Jill and Maura. Nia is a very uncaring person and does not accept the good things people do for her. Such as the point Jill brought up with the phone call from Craig. She is blaintly rude in her response "but I'm with someone else." This clearly pushed Craig over the edge and shows that his emotions are dipicted on what others feel towards him. Noelle is opposite in the fact that she is vaulnrable and understanding in once sense of Graigs scattered moods. I agree with Maura that she must have been sexually abused due to her quote mentioned. TEAM NOELLE
