After Finishing the Book.....

I found this really interesting website with a soundtrack that Ned Vizzini picked out to go along the story. After finishing the book, the song "Happy Today" definitely fits the last scenes of the book, as it describes somebody went through a difficult time but is finally feeling happy in the end, just to be alive, just as Craig did. At the same time, it's saying that the happy feeling won't last forever, because it won't and neither will Craig's happiness, but it shows the new appreciation for life that Craig has that will probably keep him from falling into another depression later in life.

  1. That website is great! I think that "Happy Today" was the best song in that list and I agree that it fits Craig's life in the end of the book perfectly.
Another song that was on the playlist on that website was "The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth." I looked up the song on Youtube and I couldn't exactly understand the lyrics so I looked them up. The lyric that stood out to me the most that related to the end of Craig's stay in Six North was "Haunted by a past I just can't see, Anymore, Anymore"
This lyric represents the struggle that Craig has endured but he has come out a better person. Craig has learned through the help from the people in Six North that he doesn't need to fall back into that depression. He has the confidence and the ability to move forward in his life.

  2. Interesting playlist! One song that stuck out to me was Eminems, "Love You More". Vizzini says, "when I consider the trials and travails of my current love, I always turn back to Eminem and Kim. A crazy woman can be a great inspiration". For those that know the Eminem and Kim story, they shared a very abusive relationship. In this song Eminem expresses, "The more you put me through, the more it makes me wanna come back to you". My thoughts for Vizzini's selection was that this song relates to Aaron and Craigs relationship, and how it was part of what led Craig to almost killing himself. Opinions?

  3. I agree that the song could be about Aaron and Craig, but I think it could also be about his relationship with Nia as well because all though she had an idea that Craig had feelings for her she kind of disregarded them, but even so Craig continued to have feelings for her until he finally moved on and met Noelle.

  4. I agree with Maura that it could be about both Aaron and Craig. Aaron was a reason that drove Craig to almost checking himself out of life early.
